Sunday in Review: Taking it Personally

I N V O C A T I O N

God of silence and God of all sound,

help us to listen.

Help us to hear your soft voice

calling us deeper into You.

Give us attentive ears

that begin to separate the noise

from the sounds that are You.

Today help us hear you anew.

Amen

*When was a time you took something personally? Why do you think you did?

*Who gets to say who you are? Who do you let say who you are?

*Who do you relate to in the Parable of the Lost Sons?

*How have you experienced God’s love for you specifically?

B E N E D I C T I O N

You are God’s Child

Gifted with dreams and visions.

Upon you rests the grace of God like flames of fire.

Love and serve the Lord in the wildness of your being.

Practice Resurrection.

And may the deep peace of Christ be with you,

The strong arms of God sustain you,

And the glory of the Holy Spirit shine upon your face.

Amen.

Resource: You are Special

As I prepped this sermon, I kept thinking about the children's book by Max Lucado, You are Special. This story certainly packs a punch and goes with the theme of how loved each of us are. Truly a profound one. I wanted to read it to you all but there simply wasn't enough time. So, now, it's your homework!

Practice: Start by Noticing

As stated in Ecclesiastes 7:21-22, just about all of us have spoken badly of others or been "cursed" by others. Begin noticing when you take someone else's words or actions personally. No need to beat yourself about it. Simply become aware--maybe it will look like defensiveness or shutting down. Make note with God. Then, say: "Christ, you are always with me. Help me know who I am, your beloved one."
