Sunday in Review: Love and Fear

I N V O C A T I O N

Oh God,

You are over all, in all, beyond all.

Open our eyes to see the wonders that surround us.

Open our hearts to know the wonders of our brothers and sisters.

Open our lips to sing your praise.

Restore all people in your image and likeness.

In and through Christ,

Amen.

S C R I P T U R E

Matthew 11:28-30

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

*What agreements* am I “keeping” out of fear?

*What agreements have borne good fruit in life even though they aren’t necessarily easy promises to keep?

*When you don’t know what to do, say, or even for sure what to think, ask yourself:

>>>Is this the voice of love (Holy Spirit)?

>>>Is this the voice of fear (Satan, accuser, adversary)?

*How can I tell? Conviction and condemnation. On the other side of condemnation is more condemnation. On the other side of conviction is some approximation of peace and hopefully sustained spurts of freedom and joy!!

Wisdom.

*Trying to be perfect is exhausting. Jesus knew that. Too well. Let us always turn to the heart of Christ…Matthew 11:28-30

*in this context, think of agreements as those truths, beliefs, ideologies, etc. that we hold as if to be true — either of our own true convictions or because they are an unspoken requirement for belonging (authentic or compelled).

B E N E D I C T I O N

You are God’s Child

Gifted with dreams and visions.

Upon you rests the grace of God like flames of fire.

Love and serve the Lord in the wildness of your being.

Practice Resurrection.

And may the deep peace of Christ be with you,

The strong arms of God sustain you,

And the glory of the Holy Spirit shine upon your face.

Amen.

Resource: The Four Agreements, a Review

As we have a conversation between the wisdom of Jesus and the Four Agreements, consider Douglas Balzer's take on the book. Here's one of his main takeaways:

In conclusion, I see the immense value in The Four Agreements, but the empowerment of the agreements needs the Holy Spirit.

Practice: Prayer Walk

The weather is glorious! Get out into it with a prayer walk.
