*Please plan to attend our all church potluck immediately after service on September 27th. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share!

Sunday in Review: Choose the Miracle

We usually follow the Revised Common Lectionary. Click on the link if you want to see what we'll be exploring in the weeks to come.

I N V O C A T I O N

God among us,

we gather in the name of your Son

to learn love for one another.

Turn our feet from evil paths,

our hands from shameful deeds,

our minds to your wisdom,

and our hearts to your grace.

Amen.

*Marianne Williamson says: “You can have a grievance or a miracle, but you cannot have both.” In this parable, where do we see grievance and where do we see miracle?

*Miracle = a shift in our perception to the grace and goodness that abound in our world which overpowers everything else. When have you experienced that?

*When you have the power to demand payment, what will you do with it? When you have the power to hold something over someone else, what will you do with it?

*The servant in this parable received a life-altering miracle of mercy, but he did not let it change him. Choose the miracle and let that miracle transform you.

*Nadia Bolz-Weber: So what if forgiveness, rather than being a pansy way to say, ‘It’s okay,’ is actually a way of wielding bolt-cutters, and snapping the chains that link us? What if it’s saying, ‘What you did was so not okay, I refuse to be connected to it anymore.’? Forgiveness is about being a freedom fighter. And free people are dangerous people. Free people aren’t controlled by the past. Free people laugh more than others. Free people see beauty where others do not. Free people are not easily offended. Free people are unafraid to speak truth to stupid. Free people are not chained to resentments. And that’s worth fighting for.

B E N E D I C T I O N

You are God’s Child

Gifted with dreams and visions.

Upon you rests the grace of God like flames of fire.

Love and serve the Lord in the wildness of your being.

Practice Resurrection.

And may the deep peace of Christ be with you,

The strong arms of God sustain you,

And the glory of the Holy Spirit shine upon your face.

Amen.

Resource: The Forgiveness Project

Forgiveness is a miracle every single time. This week, spend some time with stories from The Forgiveness Project. This worldwide endeavor aims to collect stories of forgiveness. What an invaluable resource to us all.

Practice: Forgiveness Prayer

Set aside 20 minutes this week to slowly work through this forgiveness prayer written by Mary Mrozowski and adapted by Gail Fitzpatrick-Hopler.

When you financially support Commonplace Church, you help cultivate a place where faith is nurtured and every soul has space to mutually flourish into what God designed from the get-go.

THANK YOU ! ! !
